Lewis Hamilton recorded a hard-fought victory in the 2019 Monaco Grand Prix as Formula 1 paid tribute to 3-time World Champion Niki Lauda, who passed away last week. Here’s the highlights of our weekend in the Millionaire’s Playground.
Boasting some of the best panoramic trackside views in all of Monaco, the Champions Club in the Ermanno Penthouse won plenty of new converts this year. In addition to enjoying the stunning views, gourmet food and open bars, our Champions Club guests in the Ermanno Penthouse also met Kevin Magnussen from the Haas F1 Team, who paid us a special visit on Saturday.
La Marée Restaurant
The Champions Club at La Marée Restaurant was a hive of activity all weekend as our guests enjoyed the finest seafood and the stunning trackside views from the top floor of the Port Palace Hotel. Several big names also stopped by La Marée over the weekend; Imagine Cruises hosted a luncheon with special guests Martin Brundle and Mark Webber on Friday, while Romain Grosjean from Haas joined us for a chat on race day.
Sirocco Trackside Yacht
Our trackside yacht Sirocco was the place to be all weekend as a string of big-name drivers made special appearances, including 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, ex-Ferrari driver Jean Alesi and Lando Norris from McLaren. Formula 1’s Managing Director of Commercial Operations, Sean Bratches, also paid us a visit to talk about the challenges of running the fastest sport on the planet. From a prime berth near the tunnel exit and chicane, our guests aboard the Sirocco watched the on-track action from multiple viewing decks. We also kicked on with an exclusive after-dark yacht party with DJ on Friday.
Formula 1 Paddock Club
It was a weekend to remember for our guests in the Formula 1 Paddock Club at Circuit de Monaco, who enjoyed gourmet cuisine, open bars serving the finest French champagne, driver and legend appearances, not to mention some great views of the track from the terrace rooftop terrace overlooking the iconic La Rascasse corner, where so much on-track activity happened during the race this year!
Stars 'n' Bars Reception
As well as enjoying qualifying and the race from select grandstands and a day on board the Sirocco trackside yacht, our Fan Experience guests also attended an exclusive reception at the iconic Stars ‘n’ Bars Restaurant overlooking the Formula 1 Paddock. Joining us for the evening were Safety Car Driver Bernd Mayländer and Mercedes reserve driver Esteban Ocon, one of the stars of the Netflix documentary series Drive to Survive.
After taking pole position on Saturday, Lewis Hamilton survived a sustained challenge from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen during the latter stages of Sunday’s race to record an emotional third victory on the streets of Monaco and extend his lead in the Championship. “I really was fighting with the spirit of Niki,” said Hamilton, who raced with a special red helmet paying tribute to his friend and mentor Niki Lauda. Verstappen, who finished second on the road and was voted Driver of the Day, was demoted to fourth after being penalised for an unsafe release during his pit stop. Completing the podium were Sebastian Vettel for Ferrari and Valtteri Bottas for Mercedes.
