2020 Vietnam Grand Prix – Getting Around Guide

The newest race on the Formula 1 calendar is set to take place in Vietnam next year. Here’s everything you need to know about getting to (and getting around) Hanoi at the 2020 Vietnam Grand Prix on 2-5 April.

Formula 1 will be competing at the purpose-built Hanoi Street Circuit in the district of Nam Từ Liêm, some 10km west of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. Depending on where you decide to stay (we recommend the Old Quarter, Ba Dinh or Hanoi Westlake), taxis and ride sharing are cheap and generally considered the best way to get around in Hanoi.

Which airport?

Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi is the largest in the country by capacity. It serves hundreds of domestic, regional and international routes, including direct connections to Sydney, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai and Doha. Vietnam’s flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has the most flights to and from Hanoi; other airlines with a large number of connections include Bamboo Airways, Jetstar Pacific and VietJet Air. The easiest way to get from the airport to the city is via taxi or Grab (see below for more info); expect to pay around 300,000 VND ($13 USD).

How to get to the Hanoi Street Circuit?

Details of the mobility plan for the 2020 Vietnam Grand Prix have not yet been announced. This post will be updated when more information is available.

  • Google Maps: Hanoi Street Circuit
  • F1 Experiences: booked your hotel with us? Take the hassle out of your weekend by adding daily coach transfers to and from the Hanoi Street Circuit to your Official Ticket Package.
  • Taxis/Ride Sharing: the best way to get around in Hanoi! Uber no longer operates in Vietnam, having sold their business to rival Grab – this app, which allows you to hail a motorbike or car, is definitely worth downloading ahead of your visit. Reputable taxi companies in Hanoi include Taxi Tourist (Tel: 024 562 4616), Taxi Mai Linh (Tel: 024 39 72 58 88) and Taxi Group (Tel: 1900 54 54 67).
  • Public Transport: local buses connect all corners of Hanoi with the district of Nam Từ Liêm, where the race is held. Find the best connections here. In addition, the My Dinh Bus Station, 2.5km (or 30 minutes’ walk) from the circuit, is a major hub for metropolitan and regional bus services.
  • Driving: navigating the congested roads of Hanoi in a hire car is not recommended, and trackside parking is expected to be very limited. Take a taxi or Grab instead.
