British Grand Prix Travel Guide: Seeing Silverstone

A town that is smaller than the track itself, Silverstone is a tight community with fun activities around racing, great food, and friendly people. Silverstone is surrounded by other small-town communities, be sure to fill up your weekend with exploring in rural England.

If racing is your bread and butter, Silverstone is the unofficial home of F1® but the actual home to many of Formula One’s® team factories. Some even refer to it as Motorsport Valley with seven different teams based in the U.K. all within 2 hours or less of each other. You can spend a full afternoon hopping around the valley to view each factory!

Food Means Fun in Silverstone

With Silverstone being such a small town, there aren’t too many options for places to eat, but one of the most popular is The White Horse. Just a quick 10-minute ride north brings visitors into Towcester, which is a great village full of pubs and grub to settle any palate. A stroll down Watling Street will bring you to any number of restaurants. The Rice Bowl has Chinese cuisine, or visit the La Strada Bistro for Italian fare. Towcester has the Stables Bar & Grill that provides a more casual scene settled around a pint, or you can stroll down to the Towcester Mill Brewery off Chantry Lane for a brew on the river front.

Shopping On Your Mind

If after a day at the track you want to race around finding the best shopping deals, there are plenty of hot spots around Silverstone to meet your shopping needs. Just 30 minutes south of the track in Bicester where you can visit the Bicester Village, a boutique discount outdoor shopping mall. They have stores that range from Alexander McQueen to Coach to New Balance. Head east for 30 minutes and go to Milton Keynes to stroll around their shopping malls that vary in every day apparel, or more high-end fashion brands.


Meet at the Green

For early risers, heading towards a putting green might be in your favor. If so, there are plenty of golf courses around Silverstone for you to choose from. Silverstone Golf Club is right off the Silverstone Circuit, and the Whittlebury Park Golf Course next door boasts 36 holes to stroll through. If you’re looking for a slight get-away, head down toward Buckingham and visit their golf course throughout the week. Note: Majority of golf courses only allows guests during the week, Monday through Friday.
