From driving tours of the track to Guided Paddock Access and meetings with Esteban Ocon, Mark Webber and Ross Brawn, it was an action-packed weekend for our guests at the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix!
Our programme of events at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps kicked off for our Fan Experience guests on Thursday afternoon with an Exclusive Pit Lane Walk, Drive the Track Tour and photo opportunity with the Championship trophies for drivers and teams. Fortunately, we also enjoyed some of the best weather of the weekend, perfect for taking some great photos of this iconic circuit! For most of our guests, the Drive the Track Tour was the highlight of Thursday, especially the opportunity to feel the incredible elevation change going through Eau Rouge and Raidillon.
Our Champions Club opened in the Business Tower on Friday morning, welcoming the first guests for three days of exciting on-track action. Arranged over three levels and with exceptional views of Eau Rouge, one of the most iconic corners in Formula 1®, our guests were blown away by the location!
When the on-track action finished on Friday, our Trophy and Hero guests gathered for Insider Access to the Formula 1 Paddock. At Spa-Francorchamps, this included a meeting with Safety Car Driver Bernd Mayländer and a visit to the cool down room and media conference room with F1’s® Event Logistics Coordinator Christian Pohlhammer. We also learned more about the hugely important role of tyres with a visit to Pirelli and spent some time at the McLaren garage. Our access also included a photo op on the winners’ podium.
A big day concluded with our traditional Paddock Club™ Party, where we met Esteban Ocon from the newly-formed Racing Point Force India team (read more here) and enjoyed the comforts of F1’s premier hospitality venue, including hors d’oeuvres and free-flowing drinks. Ocon certainly had a few new admirers when he took a popular third place on the grid in qualifying, then drove a consistent race for sixth place on Sunday.
Our Champions Club and Paddock Club™ guests also benefitted from a guided tour of the F1® Paddock. Over the course of the weekend, we managed countless selfies and photos with current and legendary drivers, as well as team bosses and other well-known personalities from the world of Formula 1®. We also marvelled at the incredible team brand centres, which are moved from race to race in Europe thanks to an incredible logistical operation and watched Pirelli fitting and balancing the tyres for all the teams. A highlight for many guests!
After Lewis Hamilton took pole in qualifying, we welcomed Australian F1 legend Mark Webber into our Champions Club for an enlightening Q&A that touched on some of the highs and lows of his career and finished with selfies and autographs.
After enjoying the Formula 2 and GP3 sprint races on Sunday morning, our Champions Club guests listened to a fascinating Q&A with Formula 1’s® Motorsports Director Ross Brawn, who touched on his plans for the future of Formula 1 (read more here) and also looked back on his own successful career with Williams, Ferrari, Mercedes and his own team, Brawn GP.
After a spectacular first corner crash that eliminated Nico Hülkenberg, Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc, Sebastian Vettel took control of the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix for Ferrari, winning by 11 seconds from Lewis Hamilton, with local hero Max Verstappen pleasing his many trackside fans by getting on to the podium in third place. Next up, we are off to Monza for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix!
