It was a huge weekend at the Mexican Grand Prix as Max Verstappen scored his second consecutive victory at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and Lewis Hamilton wrapped up an incredible fifth World Championship title. Check out what we got up to in Mexico!
Our weekend at the Mexican Grand Prix began on Thursday afternoon with exclusive trackside activities for Starter, Trophy and Hero guests, including a Drive the Track Tour of Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and photos with the Championship trophies on the Main Straight. There was also plenty to see during our Exclusive Pit Lane Walk, including pit stop practice from several teams and the chance to get up close with the Racing Point Force India of local hero Sergio Pérez. Our guests on Thursday included a very excited group of youngsters from a local orphanage.
Formula 1 Pirelli Hot Laps
Several of our guests got to experience the adrenaline rush of a flying lap at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in a supercar piloted by a professional racing driver as part of the Formula 1 Pirelli Hot Laps programme.
Friday evening activities
As the sun went down on Friday, our Insider Access tour kicked off in Mexico with visits to the Haas F1 Team garage and a meeting with Safety Car Driver, Bernd Mayländer. We also learned about the technology behind the driver’s race suits and gloves from Alpine Stars and stood atop the Formula 1 podium in the stadium section. During the tour, we caught up with McLaren’s Stoffel Vandoorne, who participated in a Q&A and posed for photos with our guests. The evening concluded with a party in the exclusive confines of the Formula 1 Paddock Club, overlooking the stadium section.
As well as enjoying trackside views on the Main Straight and premium hospitality, our guests in the Champions Club also got to meet local driver Sergio Pérez, who made a special appearance in the suite on Saturday after qualifying. After chatting about his career with Luc Mayor, Pérez stayed around to pose for photos and sign some autographs for some very excited guests! Pérez’s boss, Racing Point Force India Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer, also stopped by on Sunday.
The Formula 1 Paddock Club was the place to be in Mexico City! With premium food and drink, two incredible trackside locations above the pits and in the stadium section, and exciting additional displays and activities, our guests soaked up the incredible atmosphere at this special circuit in style. Our Legend guests also made the most of their One-Day Paddock Pass and special access to the post-race podium celebrations, among other exclusive benefits.
After the driver’s track parade and an exciting pre-race build up with uniquely Mexican celebrations, the main event began. Daniel Ricciardo couldn’t make the most of pole position and was beaten into the first corner by Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The young Dutch driver controlled the race as many drivers, especially the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Bottas, struggled with tyre degradation.
Verstappen went on to record a second consecutive win in Mexico from Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen after Daniel Ricciardo’s car broke down in the latter stages of the race. Lewis Hamilton may have only finished fourth, but it was enough to secure an incredible fifth World Championship title with two races to spare.
