Widely regarded as one of F1’s® most talented drivers, the path to success has been a rocky and sparkling one for Romain Grosjean. With several Grand Prix podiums to his name, Grosjean got his first shot of F1 in 2009 with Renault. The Frenchman is known for being a team leader on his current team, Haas Racing, and only has wins and a full title challenge in his crosshairs for the future.
Born in Geneva in 1986, Romain Grosjean races under a French license, but still lives in the Swiss City. He caught the racing bug relatively late; he was 14 when he began a professional karting career.
After signing on with Renault in 2008 to be a test driver, Grosjean got his first taste of F1 power in June testing the R28 over 60 laps in Barcelona. After success as a test driver, the team promoted him to their third driver for the 2009 season. After teammate Nelson Piquet’s contract came to a premature end in August 2009, Renault decided to pick their protégé Grosjean to fill the seat alongside double world champion Fernando Alonso for the last seven races of the season.
After some trying races where he failed to finish higher than 13th in his seven race appearances, Renault dropped Grosjean for the 2010 season. Grosjean decided to regroup away from F1 and tackled other series like the Auto GP championship, FIA GT and GP2. He also competed in the Le Mans and Spa 24-hour races.
In 2012, Grosjean was re-signed by Renault (now Lotus), to partner with Kimi Raikkonen for the 2012 season. In Bahrain, Grosjean finished third behind Sebastian Vettel and team mate Raikkonen. It was the first of three impressive podiums in 2012 (others coming in Canada and Hungary). Grosjean’s reputation was transformed in 2013, where he made six podium appearances, including a second place finish at the United States Grand Prix.
After a rocky 2014 season, Grosjean remained with Lotus for the 2015 season, before deciding to jump ship for 2016 and sign on with the Ferrari-powered drive with the all-new American Haas team. He consistently scored for the Haas team during 2016, collecting all 29 of their points for the season.
This season, he currently has 10 points on the board (at the time of writing) from top ten finishes in Bahrain, Spain, Monaco and Canada. We’re excited to host Romain Grosjean with F1® Experiences to join our guests at the Austrian Grand Prix and the United States Grand Prix!
