Where to Watch the Action at the 2020 Chinese Grand Prix

Shanghai International Circuit offers some of the best spectating on the current calendar. Learn more about the best places to watch the action at the 2020 Chinese Grand Prix on 16-19 April.

Visiting Shanghai International Circuit for the first time, it’s hard not to be impressed by its scale and unique architectural design. Built on swampland in the suburbs of Shanghai at a reported cost of $450m USD, the first race in 2004 attracted a record crowd of almost 200,000 local fans. Designed by Hermann Tilke, the circuit is loosely based on the Chinese ‘Shang’ (上) character, which means ‘to ascend’, and also gives Shanghai its name. The design is dominated by the huge Main Grandstand, with two wings spanning the start-finish straight that house the media center and corporate hospitality areas respectively.

Here’s our recommended places to watch the action at Shanghai International Circuit.

Main Grandstand

The Main Grandstand at Shanghai International Circuit is a huge structure that seats almost 30,000 fans and runs almost the entire length of the start-finish straight. From some of the higher seats in the Platinum section, you can even see up to 80% of the circuit! These seats are good for pits action, race build up and start, plus the podium ceremony after the race. Seats in Grandstand A Platinum are included with Hero Ticket Packages for the 2020 Chinese Grand Prix, while Trophy Ticket Packages include a seat in Grandstand A Silver. Other benefits of Trophy and Hero Ticket Packages include a host of exclusive trackside activities at Shanghai International Circuit on Thursday and Friday such as an Exclusive Pit Lane Walk, Guided Track Tour, F1 Insider Access and a Paddock Club Reception with a current or legendary F1 driver. Premier Ticket Packages feature Friday access to the  Formula 1 Paddock Club and a weekend grandstand seat in Grandstand A Platinum.

Grandstands H & K

These covered Grandstands are situated on the final few corners of the circuit, either side of the Turn 14 hairpin. This is one of only two genuine overtaking spots on the whole circuit, so these seats are great for on-track action. Grandstands H & K are also recommended for amateur F1 photographers! A seat in Grandstand H or K for all three days of on-track action is included with Starter Ticket Packages.
