Your Trackside Guide to the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix

Shanghai International Circuit may be almost 15 years old, but it’s still a state of the art facility that was built with the comfort of spectators in mind. Here’s your guide to getting the most out of your weekend at the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix, the 1000th World Championship race.

On-Track Action

Unlike the busy schedules at many Grand Prix weekends, there's not a huge amount of on-track racing in Shanghai. The F1 action kicks off with the first two practice sessions on Friday from 10:00-11:30 and 14:00-15:30. Friday is a good day to get out and explore the circuit, as the grandstands and general admission areas are open to all ticket holders. The final one-hour practice session takes place on Saturday morning from 11:00-12:00, before the business end of the weekend begins with qualifying on Saturday afternoon (14:00-15:00) and ends with the race on Sunday afternoon from 14:10-16:10.

The Formula 1 cars will be joined by racing from the Formula 4 Chinese Championship, who will stage two races over the course of the weekend and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, which stages one race on Sunday morning, plus practice and qualifying sessions. Other on-track action to look out for this weekend includes the 2019 return of the Formula 1 Pirelli Hot Laps cars, which will be taking celebrities and paying guests on laps of Shanghai International Circuit. Demonstration runs from historic Renault and Lotus Formula 1 cars are also planned to celebrate the 1000th World Championship race.

F1 Village

Located behind the Main Grandstand, the F1 Village is worth checking out when the track is quiet. You’ll find lots of interactive activities as part of the F1 Fanzone, including an F1 Pitstop Challenge and F1 eSport racing. You can also discover how your physical fitness and reaction time stacks up against the current F1 drivers. Finally, don’t miss the opportunity to have your picture taken with the “F1 Bobbleheads,” who will be out and about all weekend.
